Complex League Standouts From Last Week
The Arizona and Florida Complex Leagues are officially underway, offering a first look at recent draft picks and highly-touted international signees adjusting to stateside professional baseball. This week’s report focuses on three lower-level standouts who have opened their campaigns with exceptional statistical baselines, followed by a look at the complex league’s most anticipated name.
Josuar Gonzalez (SS, ACL Giants – Giants)
💎 Ebay Auction to Monitor💎: 2025 Bowman Chrome Josuar Gonzalez Refractor Auto /499 PSA 10
Past Week: Gonzalez anchored an offensive surge for the ACL Giants, highlighted by a mid-week performance where he and teammate Luis Hernandez (more on him later) combined for eight hits and 12 RBIs in a 29-2 victory over the ACL Dodgers.
2026 Season: Through his first 25 at-bats in the Arizona Complex League, the 18-year-old infielder is batting .440/.593/.762 with one home run, nine RBIs, and two stolen bases, good for a 1.243 OPS.
Standout Quality: Following an excellent professional debut in the 2025 Dominican Summer League, Gonzalez has seen his prospect stock climb rapidly, recently rising to No. 31 on MLB Pipeline’s updated Top 100 list due to his advanced bat-to-ball skills. I think he has top 10 upside. He’s got some insane twitch. We are talking 80 grade speed here with an excellent hit tool.
Cristian Arguelles (OF, ACL Rockies – Rockies)
💎 Ebay Auction to Monitor💎: 2025 Bowman Chrome Cristian Arguelles True Blue Auto /150 PSA 9
Past Week: Arguelles adjusted smoothly to stateside pitching during the second week of the complex league calendar, collecting multiple extra-base hits and demonstrating elite strike-zone discipline.
2026 Season: In his first taste of the Arizona Complex League, the 18-year-old outfielder is batting .333 with a .467 on-base percentage and a .583 slugging percentage across his initial 12 at-bats.
Standout Quality: Definitely a polarizing prospect, as he repeated the DSL (albeit destroyed it in his second go-round), the left-handed-hitting center fielder has carried over the premium contact traits that allowed him to hit .422 with a 1.180 OPS in the Dominican Summer League last season.
Johnny Slawinski (LHP, Los Angeles Angels)
💎 Ebay Auction to Monitor💎: 2025 Bowman Draft Johnny Slawinski Refractor Auto /499
Past week: In his May 9 start, Slawinski threw 4 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits, zero walks, and striking out six batters in an eventual 8-0 shutout victory for the ACL Angels. In an era where command has plagued top prospects, he has issued 0 walks in his first 7 innings.
A highly projectable 19-year-old southpaw, Slawinski was selected by the Angels in the third round of the 2025 draft out of Johnson City High School in Texas, bypassing a Texas A&M commitment for a substantial over-slot $2.5 million signing bonus.
Standing 6-foot-3 with a loose, athletic delivery built from his days as a four-sport high school athlete, he features a low-90s fastball that touches 95 mph and plays up significantly due to elite extension and riding life through the top of the zone.
Statcast profiles indicate massive upside in his secondary arsenal, highlighted by an upper-70s slider that flashes sharp, two-plane depth alongside a low-80s changeup with heavy lateral fade.
To close out, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention ACL Giants shortstop Luis Hernandez. The 17-year-old Venezuelan sensation signed for nearly $5 million in January and completely bypassed the Dominican Summer League to debut stateside, where he launched a game-tying grand slam for his first professional hit on May 2. At just 15 and 16 years old, he played against grown men in the Venezuelan Liga Mayor (a league featuring former MLB and Triple-A veterans) and batted .346 across 114 plate appearances there, proving to scouts that his maturity and pitch recognition were far too advanced for the DSL. Currently hitting .444 with four home runs and already climbing to No. 58 on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 list, Hernandez’s explosive tools, elite bat speed, and immense organizational investment make him the definitive favorite to be the top Bowman Chrome autograph chase of 2026.
